Frequently Asked Questions: Quantitative Trading
Everything you need to know about professional risk management, sizing math, and data methodology.
What is the 1% Risk Rule in Trading?
The 1% risk rule states that a trader should never risk losing more than 1% of their total account equity on any single trade. If you have a $50,000 account, your maximum loss on a trade if your stop loss hits is exactly $500. This ensures you can endure consecutive losses without destroying your account capital.
How does the Position Size Formula work?
Position Size = Account Capital × Risk % ÷ |Entry Price - Stop Loss Price|. For example, on a $10,000 account risking 1% ($100), buying Bitcoin at $80,000 with an invalidation stop at $78,000 ($2,000 risk per BTC) means your exact position size is 0.05 BTC ($4,000).
Is Funding Rate Arbitrage 100% Risk-Free?
No. While cash-and-carry funding arbitrage is delta-neutral (hedged against spot market price fluctuations), traders face execution risks, exchange taker fees, potential funding rate reversals, and exchange counterparty solvency risks. Our calculator deducts realistic 0.05% taker fees to provide honest net estimates.
